The Parliamentary Select Committee on Local Government has concluded a 13-day public hearing to examine the 2025 Annual Statements presented by Audit Committees of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across Ghana’s 16 regions.

The hearing, held at Parliament, brought together Regional Ministers and officials from various local government authorities to account for their financial management, administrative activities and development projects.

During the proceedings, the Committee’s Chairperson, Hon. Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, questioned officials on several key areas of local government performance.

The discussions focused on the implementation of the government’s 24-Hour Economy Market initiative, construction of boreholes, allocation of funds to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), management of Internally Generated Funds (IGF), GETFund projects, District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) expenditure and sanitation challenges.

The 13-day parliamentary exercise was aimed at evaluating the performance of local assemblies, identifying financial and administrative challenges, and ensuring accountability in the use of public funds.

The Committee’s engagement also provided an opportunity to assess the progress of development projects and strengthen transparency, financial discipline and effective service delivery at the district level.
