The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has requested nine years of financial, tax and operational records from Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners, a law firm where Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, serves as a senior partner.
The request forms part of ongoing investigations into suspected financial and economic crimes, including alleged criminal conspiracy, causing financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and possible tax-related offences.
In a letter dated October 30, 2026, EOCO invoked Section 19 of the Economic and Organised Crime Office Act, 2010 (Act 804), to formally demand documents and relevant information from the law firm to support its investigations.
EOCO Requests Financial Statements and Tax Records
Among the documents requested are the firm’s audited financial statements covering the 2017 to 2025 financial years.
EOCO has also directed the law firm to provide evidence of tax payments made to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) during the same period.
The requested tax documentation covers corporate income tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), statutory levies and withholding tax payments.
The anti-corruption and economic crime agency is also seeking a complete list of all bank accounts operated by the firm, together with the corresponding bank statements covering the nine-year period.
Law Firm to Submit Employee and Business Permit Details
In addition to its financial records, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners has been asked to provide copies of its business operating permit issued by the relevant local assembly and evidence of any subsequent renewals.
EOCO has further requested information about individuals employed by the law firm, where applicable, as part of efforts to obtain a comprehensive picture of its operations.
November 6 Deadline for Submission
The law firm has been given until November 6, 2026, to submit all requested financial statements, tax records, bank account information, business permits and other relevant documents to EOCO.
The document request forms part of the Office’s broader investigations into alleged financial misconduct involving SIC Savings and Loans.
EOCO’s demand does not, in itself, establish wrongdoing by the law firm or its senior partners. The investigations are ongoing, and the allegations remain subject to the relevant legal processes.
