The Eastern Region of Ghana’s Abuakwa North Municipality, which includes the farming village of Latutu in Akyem Tontro, has discovered a young guy in his early 20s hanging from a cocoa tree.
The dead allegedly committed suicide after his father left for Somanya. A week earlier, the deceased and his father are said to have been to the community from Sefwi to visit a family member.
The well-groomed young man grabbed his stuff and left early on Wednesday morning.
Around 5:00 PM that evening, his body was discovered hanging on a cocoa field.
The top farmer in the area, Mr. Emmanuel Abayatey, who owns the land, found the body.
The young man reportedly tied a sponge to a cocoa tree limb and then stepped on a gallon to hang himself.
In confirming the occurrence, Osiem-Afigya Electoral Area Assemblyman Stephen Tetteh said that a Tafo District Police Command Police Criminal Investigation officer was present to take inventory of the crime site.
Stephen Tetteh bemoaned the lack of transportation, which had them drag the body to the side of the road in search of a tricycle so they could transfer it to the Akyem Tafo Government Hospital mortuary.
Since the young man left no notes, police are looking into what motivated him to act as he did.
