A 55-year-old plumber has been charged with defiling a six-year-old girl and brought before the Gender and Domestic Violence Court.
William Ashley, however, has refuted the accusation of defilement and has been granted GH¢ 50,000 in bail with two sureties. He has one weekly report to the police.
Detective Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei presented the case’s facts to the court, stating that Ashley, a plumber, stays in the same home in Lartebiokorshie as the victim and that the complainant is the victim’s mother.
According to Det. C/Insp. Aniagyei, on January 27, 2024, the accused person traveled to Tema with the victim to complete some job for his aunt, who had returned from a foreign country.
At approximately 5 p.m. on the same day, the victim and the accused, according to him, returned to Lartebiokorshie. The prosecutor stated that the victim told the complainant that she had had sex with the accused in a room while she was in Tema when she returned home.
After learning of this, the prosecutor stated that the complainant referred the case to the Dansoman Police DOVVSU in order to initiate additional investigation.
In her statement to the police, the victim allegedly told the accused that she wanted to respond to her natural needs while in Tema, specifically in a particular house, according to the prosecution.
He added that the victim had told him that the accused had led her into a small room and taken off her underwear. The accused then took off his clothes and began stroking the victim’s vagina with his penis.
The prosecutor informed the court, “The victim stated that the accused person then inserted his penis into her vagina and had sexual intercourse with her.”
Det. C/Insp. Aniagyei said the court that the victim reported to the accused throughout the sexual encounter that she was experiencing excruciating pain in her vagina but that he had ignored her complaints.
“The victim said the accused person later removed his penis from her vagina and she saw a whitish substance like porridge in the palm of the accused person.
“The accused person later dressed up and went out to wash his hands. The victim also wore her panties,” he added.
“A police medical report form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to hospital for examination, treatment and a report submitted on her,” he said.
The victim told the complainant about her experience, according to the prosecution, when she and the accused returned to Lartebiokorshie later that same day at around 5 p.m.
The prosecutor stated that the accused was then taken into custody and that during his cautionary statement to the police, the accused denied any wrongdoing.
