Hon. Elizabeth K.T. Sackey, the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has called on employees to maintain the advancements made during her leadership and provide professional services.
During an end-of-year staff durbar at the Omanye Aba Hall, Hon. Sackey spoke and thanked God for allowing her to serve as the first female mayor of Accra for four years in spite of many obstacles.
Even though the results did not meet her expectations, she praised the peaceful execution of the polls and thanked God for the blessings of the programs and initiatives she had launched.

The Mayor reflected on her tenure in office, highlighting a number of accomplishments in important areas of governance. She also mentioned that the use of street sweepers and improved oversight of partner organizations had resulted in a notable improvement in trash management.
She said that a digitalized central collecting platform, which decreased cash handling and enhanced transparency, had also increased income mobilization.
“From a total revenue of GH¢14.8 million in 2021, the Assembly collected GH¢21.3 million as of November 30, 2024, representing 74.4% of the year’s budget,” she said.
The mayor listed the main infrastructure projects she had started, such as building a three-story, eighteen-unit classroom and kindergarten block for the Independence Avenue Cluster of Schools; constructing a contemporary slaughterhouse and daycare center at Agbogbloshie; building market sheds to house 270 vendors at Makola Market (Phase II); and other sanitary and health-related facilities throughout the city.
Hon. Sackey noted an increase in pay and benefits and emphasized increases in employee engagement.
The Mayor also praised the Assembly’s international partnerships, which produced notable developments, such as the establishment of a Migrant Desk under the AMA and International Organization for Migration (IOM) relationship and the provision of medical equipment to Kaneshie Polyclinic.
Another significant achievement she highlighted was Accra’s involvement in the Bloomberg Philanthropies-powered Youth Climate Action Fund.
She confidently claimed that the AMA had won every case she had worked on, attributing the result to the hiring of qualified solicitors and the resuscitation of the legal department.

Notwithstanding the difficulties, Hon. Sackey reiterated her opinion that the Assembly had made impressive strides and urged employees to keep up the tempo, retain their professionalism, and adopt the idea of “working with the speed of light” in order to guarantee prompt and high-quality service delivery.
She promised staff that she would be available for consultations even after she announced her departure. She said that the experiences were crucial to her political career and expressed her sincere gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for choosing her as the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister and then its mayor.
The Mayor also expressed gratitude for the work of stakeholders and Assembly members, both current and former, who backed her administration.
The Mayor was commended by the Assembly’s staff for her outstanding leadership in enhancing their well-being, especially through the timely payment of allowances and large wage increases.
They praised her for constantly putting their well-being first, which inspired them to provide the residents with high-quality services, and they called her tenure transformative.
