The Sunyani District Court “B” has charged 42-year-old Police Inspector Agyemang Duah Owusu with murder and placed him under police detention.

Owusu was remanded by the court, which was presided over by Eric Daning, in relation to the untimely death of Francis Frimpong, a passionate fan of the Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club (FC).

When the Nsoatreman FC hosted the Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC in match 19 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday, February 02, 2025, at their home field, the Nsoatre Professor Amoah Koromansah II stadium, the dead was fatally stabbed.

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, Owusu appeared in court with two other suspects: Joseph Kyeremeh, who is referred to as “santos” in the football community, and Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, 58, who is the owner and financier of the Nsoatreman FC.

Their next scheduled appearance was set for Monday, February 17, 2025. Inspector Alexander Oppong, the police prosecutor, informed the court during the case hearing that the suspects were implicated in the deceased’s murder.

He stated that an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition and two garments with possible bloodstains were found during a check of the Owusu family’s room.

According to Sections 20 (1) and 46 of the Criminal Offenses Act 1960 (Act 29), Kyeremeh and Baffour-Awuah, a former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, were charged with “abetment to commit crime, to wit murder” following preliminary investigations.

They were each given GHC 500,000 bail by the court, along with three sureties, one of whom had to provide justification.

Baffour Awuah, a former member of parliament for the Sunyani West Constituency, is subject to a bail condition that prohibits him from leaving the Sunyani Municipality or traveling outside of it without permission from the court.

Additionally, they were mandated to report to the police every day until the next adjournment date and turn in their passports to the court registry.
