According to John Abdulai Jinapor, minister of energy and green transition, the Ashanti Region will soon become a major center for power generation as important energy projects are completed.

These projects are anticipated to generate about 700 megawatts of electricity.

The minister said this while visiting the area to evaluate the problems with the electricity supply. During his tour, he examined important facilities such as the ASKSA Energy Plants at the Awomaso Bulk Power Supply enclave, the Ameri Power Plant, and the Cenit.

Jinapor told locals in a media appearance that measures are being taken to stabilize the area’s electricity supply.

“The supply situation has been stable, and we are able to export some excess amount of power. But there is still more work to be done. Beyond generating the power, you have to evacuate it, you have to transmit it, and you have to distribute it. And so we are working around the clock to ensure that we address this challenge and ultimately ensure that we have a very reliable supply and delivery of power.”

A new transformer, which he claimed will be essential to power distribution, was successfully installed by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), and he praised them for their efforts.

“Let me commend GRIDCo for completing this transformer. It is going to play a very significant role as far as power delivery is concerned. What we witnessed over the past two days has to do with the fact that when you are switching from one transformer to the other, you will have some few challenges.

“And so let me assure the people of Kumasi that that problem has been resolved, and we look forward to a very improved delivery of power.”

His comments are made at a time when people in Kumasi and the neighboring areas have been dealing with sporadic power outages, raising questions about dependability.

Long-term energy security in the area is thought to be largely dependent on the government’s commitment to increasing power generation and fortifying transmission infrastructure.
