The Ghana Armed Forces are fully equipped and prepared to take decisive action in the ongoing fight against illegal mining, often known as galamsey, according to Minister of Defense Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who has issued a harsh warning to illegal miners.
In a Facebook statement, Dr. Boamah emphasized that the military’s involvement in the anti-galamsey operations will be determined by outcomes rather than rhetoric.
“The military will talk less and let action and outcomes guide its operations, we have the needed political will, and the Ghana Armed Forces has been empowered to act,” he stated.

The minister reiterated a strong demand for all illegal miners working in Ghana’s waterways and forest reserves to voluntarily leave these environmentally delicate areas.
“Once again, in the name of God and Ghana, I urge illegal miners: leave the forest reserves and water bodies. Save your lives, save the environment,” he appealed.
The government is stepping up its efforts to combat illegal mining, which continues to be a major threat to the nation’s rivers, forests, and biodiversity. Dr. Boamah’s comments coincide with this effort.
With the military anticipated to take a more active and results-oriented role in repairing Ghana’s deteriorated natural resources, the defense minister’s robust position heralds a new era in the implementation of environmental protection regulations.
