The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation launched the ‘One Million Coders’ program on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, with participation from Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
The program, which was formally introduced by President John Dramani Mahama, intends to improve the employability of Ghanaian youth in the rapidly changing digital economy by providing them with fundamental digital skills, including coding, web design, and cybersecurity.
The minister emphasized the initiative’s alignment with the ministry’s commitment to fostering digital inclusion, especially among women and marginalized groups, in an interview with the media following the event.
She underlined that educating young people with digital skills is essential to promoting inclusive growth and closing the gender gap.
Additionally, the minister announced that the Free Sanitary Pad Initiative, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, will be launched on April 24, 2025.
The program seeks to enhance schoolgirls’ management of their menstrual hygiene, lower absenteeism, and promote the general well-being and academic achievement of girls nationwide.
