The demonstration, which is set for today, Monday, May 5, 2025, has extensive security measures in place, according to the Accra Regional Police Command.

The police told the public that every precaution is being taken to guarantee the safety of protesters, drivers, and the general public in a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region.

The planned route for the demonstration is as follows: the park across from the Supreme Court, the MOFA traffic light, the High Court Complex, the Ministries Police Station, the Stadium traffic light, Osu Cemetery, Parliament House, the Liberation Road Roundabout, Ring Road Central, and Christ the King. The demonstration is anticipated to start at 7:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m.

“Police officers will be deployed along the entire route to ensure safety and maintain public order. Additionally, officers will be positioned at key intersections and high-traffic points to monitor proceedings, manage vehicular movement, and assist other road users,” Supt. Obeng stated.

Temporary road diversions will be used in order to minimize delays and promote efficient traffic flow. To prevent traffic jams and delays, drivers are urged to choose other routes and heed police directives.

Additionally, the police have asked everyone attending to play by the rules and assist the security guards during the event. The organizers have been warned to make sure the demonstration stays peaceful and to follow the guidelines set down in the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).

The statement ended, “The Accra Regional Police Command is still dedicated to protecting public safety and the right to lawful assembly.”
