A group of public health specialists was sent by the Service’s Acting Director-General, Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, to investigate several recent COVID-19 cases that were reported in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Municipality.
Key stakeholders and medical experts were part of the team, which was led by Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, the Director of Public Health.
They visited important medical facilities like the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), the University Hospital, the Students Clinic, and the Ayawaso West Wuogon Municipal Health Directorate.
Initial evaluations showed a localized increase in COVID-19 cases, most of which were minor.
As of right now, there is no proof that the rise is associated with widespread, serious sickness or hospitalizations.
The University of Ghana’s proactive involvement in the country’s COVID-19 response, especially in the areas of testing, surveillance, and public health education, was praised by the group.
Health officials continue to keep a close eye on the situation and encourage everyone to follow advised safety precautions.
