In celebration of the first National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, Accra Mayor Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey and Greater Accra Regional Minister Hon. Linda Ocloo have given out more than 500 hot meals to head porters and the poor in the Tudu and Cocoa Marketing Board (CMB) neighborhoods of the CBD.
Beginning at approximately 5 p.m., the activity attracted sizable crowds of enthusiastic head porters and underprivileged people who shouted and hurried forward as the Mayor and Regional Minister distributed packed meals in an attempt to show empathy and unity.

Speaking during the exercise, Mayor Allotey noted that the President’s National Prayers and Thanksgiving Service earlier in the day served as the inspiration for the gesture, which was to give thanks to God for the peace the nation still enjoys.
“Yesterday, the President led the nation to prayer and to thank God for the peace we are enjoying in Ghana,” he stated, adding, “So I joined hands with the Regional Minister to feed some head porters and less privileged people because not all of us made it there.”
He emphasized that “it is the Lord’s work to do good,” which is why they decided to help individuals make ends meet.
He said that it was a divine obligation to look out for one another.
Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, echoed the mayor’s views as well, emphasizing that leaders had a moral obligation to assist the underprivileged.
According to her, the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, with the theme “One Nation Under God: Giving Thanks, Seeking Grace,” embodies the observance’s dual goals of thanking God for the nation’s blessings and asking for divine direction for the future.
Thank you for the unexpected support, said some of the head porters, many of whom were carrying heavy basins on their heads.
Samuel Kofi Mensah, another beneficiary who was in the vicinity, expressed his gratitude for the act and called the Mayor a modest man.
He addresses us traders in a humble and respectful manner. He remarked, “I like him, and may God bless him for everything he is doing for us.”
