The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has legally filed thorough reports on the violent incidents that plagued Ghana’s general elections in 2020 and 2024, according to Interior Minister Mr. Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka.

The study is a significant step forward in government efforts to combat election violence and rebuild trust in the nation’s democratic process, the Interior Minister said.

On Monday, July 14, 2025, Mr. Muntaka attended the “Government Accountability Series,” which was organized by the Government Communications wing. He stated, “I have just been informed by the IGP that he has submitted full reports on the electoral violence that occurred in 2020 and 2024.”

One platform that gives sector ministers the chance to give updates on their ministry’s mid-year sector performance is the “Government Accountability Series.”

According to Presidency Communications, the program is a component of initiatives aimed at increasing accountability and transparency in governance.

There were pockets of disturbance during both the 2020 and 2024 elections, including killings, ballot box stealing, and violent altercations between security agents and party supporters.

There were numerous reported fatalities and injuries, which sparked calls for reform and responsibility.

The IGP submitted the reports in response to calls for open investigations and prompt action to address electoral violence in the nation from political stakeholders, civil society organizations, and the international community.
