The National Democratic Congress held its presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, April 13, 2023, and eight (8) people have been detained by the police around the nation for a variety of election-related offenses including disturbing the peace.

The suspects, Yaro Burdove, Harrison Martey, Imoro Ibrahim, Arkoli Mensah, Nyarko Richard, Prince Lomotey, Hamidu Dramani, and Bejando Emmanuel, were detained at various polling places throughout four different electoral districts in the nation.

For example, during the elections in the Ningo Prampram Constituency, suspect Yaro Burdove was detained for photographing his ballot in the voting booth and attempting to photograph the ballots of other voters, while Harrison Martey and Imoro Ibrahim were detained for fighting indecently at a voting center in the same constituency.

Arkoli Mensah and Nyarko Richard, the suspects, were detained for obstructing the voting process at the New Juaben South Constituency in the Eastern Region by fighting illegally at a polling place.

Suspect Prince Lomotey was apprehended at a polling place in the Mfantseman Constituency in the Central Region for personation, while suspects Hamidu Dramani and Bejando Emmanuel were apprehended for inciting violence at a polling place in the Atebubu-Amantin constituency in the Bono East Region.

Five of the suspects are currently free on bail pending a police investigation, and the other three are being held in support of the police probe.
