The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has denied social media rumors that it changed the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park signage to read “Oobake” in place of the culturally significant inscriptions “Woezor” (Ewe) and “Akwaaba” (Akan).

The GTA explained in a statement dated August 28, 2025, written by Maame Efua Houadjeto, the Chief Executive Officer, that it never authorized or approved any changes to the current inscriptions, which are still in place as reminders of Ghana’s rich cultural legacy.

The Authority emphasized that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture and the appropriate agency would need to be consulted before any changes were made to the signs at the national monument.

The GTA reiterated its dedication to maintaining the park as a place of pride and unification for the country and urged the public and stakeholders to ignore the misleading information.

Additionally, the Authority advised the public to confirm information via its official channels before disseminating it.
