After a 300-year lapse without a holder of the respected position, the Effutu State has finally bestowed the title of Osahen on Mr. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin in a spectacular ceremony rich in history and cultural importance.
According to a statement released by the MP and forwarded to the Ghana News Agency on Sunday, Mr. Afenyo-Markin, the MP for Effutu for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is now “Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin.”
As the Chief Warrior of the Effutu State, the Osahen is essential to preserving harmony and order between the Tuafo and Dentsefo Asafo groups. He also acts as a vital conduit between these warrior companies and the Effutu State’s Paramount Chief, Oma Odefe.
Osahen Afenyo-Markin, the general head of the Asafo Companies, was charged with maintaining peace in the state, supervising arbitrations, and advancing the welfare of the Asafo groups, according to the statement.
Along with these responsibilities, it stated that he will also carry out important ceremonial tasks, such as getting ready for the King’s outdooring and making sure everything is ready for state events.
In his first speech following the conferment, Osahen Afenyo-Markin conveyed his sincere appreciation to the Paramount Chief and the people of Effutu for giving him the honorable task.
He was cited as saying: “This is a call to service as well as an honor for me.”
“I pledge to uphold the values and traditions of our great Effutu State and work tirelessly to maintain peace and unity among our people,” it said.
There are important etiquette duties associated with the Osahen title, which is a distinctive historic appellation rather than a chieftaincy title.
The Osahen plays a crucial role in the Effutu State’s government structure since, according to custom, all issues from the Asafo leaders must be relayed to the Paramount Chief via him when he is in council.
