Vincent Apetor was fined GH¢3,000 and given Ghana 14 days in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for using his ex-girlfriend’s GH¢114,000 loan unlawfully for football betting.
After completing his term, the court additionally mandated that he return the remaining GH¢79,000.
According to what the court heard, Apetor’s ex-girlfriend got the loan to fund their trip to Holland and put the funds into his Ecobank account after a travel agent suggested that they raise their bank account balance in order to apply for a visa.
According to the prosecution, Apetor withdrew the money covertly and used the most of it on football wagers without telling her.
Later on, he acknowledged that he had wagered the money and lost.
He had GH¢35,000 recovered by the police, leaving GH¢79,000 unpaid.
