A member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAiMOS) died in a tragic accident at the Obuasi Airport on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, according to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
A five-person NAiMOS team was involved in the collision while on a significant anti-galamsey operation meant to stop illicit mining activities in the Obuasi enclave, according to a statement released by the Ministry.
Four of the task force members suffered severe injuries and are presently undergoing treatment in a hospital, while one member apparently passed away immediately.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources sent his sincere sympathies to the deceased’s family and wished the injured staff members a speedy recovery.
According to the Ministry, a thorough inquiry into the accident’s circumstances has been started in order to determine the reason and guarantee accountability.
It reiterated its dedication to safeguarding the security and well-being of every frontline officer involved in the battle against illicit mining and promised to provide all required assistance to the impacted staff.
