An accident occurred during a test run of Ghana’s recently purchased train in the Asuogyaman District. The train was meant to operate on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.
The incident happened at approximately 12:10 p.m. on the same day, as the Ministry of Railways Development revealed in a statement dated Thursday, April 18, 2024.
The train was approaching a curve at Km76+100 when it struck a stationary car that was positioned right across the rail track, according to the Ministry.
The train could not stop completely before the crash, even when the emergency braking system was applied immediately.
There were no reported fatalities; all bystanders, drivers, passengers, and crew members were said to be safe.
The unmanned vehicle was discovered in an area that was not marked as an authorized level crossing, according to the Ministry.
The police have been notified of the situation, and investigations are presently being conducted to ascertain the cause of the mishap.
The damaged train has been taken to the workshop for additional examination and required maintenance.
Recently, the government of Ghana purchased two modern diesel-powered trains from Poland in an attempt to improve Ghana’s railway transportation infrastructure.
