The Parliamentary Select Committee on Environment, Science, and Technology has completed its field visits to mining businesses and people in the Ashanti and Ahafo regions.
The Committee urged all mining corporations to fulfil their duties.
The Committee remarked that unlawful mining posed a threat to society and urged the government to boost financial allocations to the authorities in charge of combating the scourge.
Asanko Gold Mines was the last to be visited in Ahafo South, following AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi Gold Mine and Newmont Ghana.
The Committee expressed gratitude and satisfaction to the Companies for their environmental, water, and forest reserve safety standards, as well as the Tailing Storage Facility (TSF) Dam locations.
However, the Committee voiced concern about the company’s failure to present a policy document to address potential climate change risks in the Communities.
