The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Ashaiman Constituency Executive Committee has distanced itself from an unofficial support of Madam Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman as the vice presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.

The committee noted that the views of the majority of the constituency were not represented by a press conference held on September 29, 2023 by a group of people supporting Opoku Agyeman’s nomination.

The committee restated its commitment to democratic processes inside the party and expressed confidence in the flagbearer to make the greatest choice for the success of the NDC as a whole in a press release signed by Allan De-graft Quansah, the secretary of the Ashaiman constituency.

The statement stated, “We trust our leader, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, to make the best decision for our collective success. We believe in the democratic processes within our great party.”

The committee added urged all party members to refrain from putting the flagbearer under excessive pressure and to give him the freedom to choose a vice presidential candidate free from outside interference.

They emphasized the value of party cohesion and that their power comes from prioritizing group objectives over individual interests.

“The strength of our party is unity, and we must put common interests ahead of personal ones. Together, our constituency and the country may realize a brighter future,” the message concluded.

The committee requested that the media ignore the press conference and the endorsement group’s claims. They highlighted that their official position would be made known through the proper means.
