A traffic accident involving two cargo trucks at Asuboi on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region resulted in two fatalities and two injuries.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), on Saturday, July 18, 2026, firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station responded to a distress call and managed to free the trapped victims.
The GNFS reports that the station got the emergency contact at 9:01 a.m. and sent out a six-person rescue team at 9:03 a.m., under the command of Station Officer I Antwi Forson. It took the crew ten minutes to get to the location.
Hyundai truck GX 7359-14 and KIA Rhino GX 857-16 were involved in the collision.
Before transferring the wounded to members of the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Ambulance Service for transportation to the Suhum Government Hospital, firefighters employed hydraulic extrication equipment to remove the people trapped in the wrecked cars.
According to preliminary investigations, the driver of the KIA Rhino, which was driving from the Upper West Region to Accra, lost control and collided with the Hyundai truck in front after a front tyre broke.
Two of the four people involved in the tragedy perished, and the other two were injured and sent to the hospital.
Both cars were severely damaged. The KIA Rhino’s front portion and one of its tires were totally destroyed, while the Hyundai truck’s front end sustained significant damage.
The event was also attended by personnel from the Ayensuano District Ambulance Service and the Ghana Police Service’s Suhum Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).
