A statewide strike has been called by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), and it will start today, Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

The government’s refusal to put into effect a new pay structure that was authorized by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission more than a year and a half ago is the reason behind the decision to go on strike.

The suggested pay adjustments were part of an earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and the association expressed concern over their delayed implementation.

Fair pay for its members is important, and CLOGSAG has underlined how urgent it is to address this issue.

Isaac Bampoe Addo, the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, stated in a statement that until the government complies with their requests, all of its members should follow the command.

“Indicating our intentions to proceed on a nationwide strike if the new salary structure for the staff of the civil service and local government service is not implemented, we hereby declare a nationwide strike with effect from Wednesday, July 3, 2024.”

Given that CLOGSAG represents a sizable portion of Ghana’s civil and local government employees, the next strike is anticipated to have a large impact on a variety of government services throughout the nation.

The government has been urged by the association to hold a constructive dialogue in order to address the salary disagreement.
