Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the former CEO of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), was freed from the Economic and Organised Crime Office’s (EOCO) custody, but his legal team claims he was later called back for additional procedures.

Godfred Yeboah Dame, the former Attorney General and legal counsel for the former NAFCO leader, discussed the development in an interview with Citi News on Thursday, May 7. He stated that his client was first released on Wednesday, May 6, and was told to return to EOCO on Thursday morning.

“Yes, he was released yesterday and he was asked to come there this morning and the lawyers accompanied him again,” Mr. Dame said.

He clarified that Mr Aludiba accepted the invitation and showed up at EOCO with his solicitors at around ten in the morning, refuting allegations that his absence from the EOCO premises had impeded the proceedings.

“So clearly it was false. He was there today at 10 a.m. with his lawyers. They’re all there today,” he remarked.

Mr. Dame states that when they arrived, EOCO representatives told them they had to wait for the agency’s Executive Director, who was apparently not available at the moment.

He said, “After a while, they said he was not there, so he could go.”

Mr. Dame said that once his client and the legal team left the EOCO premises, they received a second message a short while later requesting that they come back.

“Just a few minutes ago, they sent a message indicating that they’ve been called back for whatever process EOCO wishes to undertake,” he said.

He mentioned that Mr. Aludiba and his attorneys were now working with investigators at EOCO.

The most recent development coincides with the controversy surrounding the Attorney General’s recent decision to drop charges in an ongoing criminal investigation against the former NAFCO leader and his wife due to alleged new evidence discovered by investigators.

Justice Srem-Sai, the deputy attorney general, has defended the charges’ withdrawal, characterising it as a typical judicial process when fresh information comes to light during investigations.

Mr. Dame, however, has attacked the action, claiming that the circumstances behind the withdrawal raise questions about the nation’s criminal prosecution and law enforcement procedures.
