Fiifi Kwetey, the national secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stressed the value of harmony within the party’s women’s wing and their critical role in winning success in the upcoming general election in 2024.

He emphasized the historical contributions made by women in the founding, maintenance, and expansion of the party while speaking to delegates at the induction ceremony of the women’s wing working committee in Accra last Friday.

He implored the women to acknowledge the significant contribution they have made and are now making. In his remarks, Fiifi Kwetey drew on the insight of the late J.J. Rawlings, the party’s founder, who had underlined the crucial role of women in establishing and bolstering the party’s foundation.

“The founder always told us that if we want to have a successful party, the women must be fully mobilized,” he said, quoting Rawlings. The work is finished after women are mobilized.

In highlighting the crucial role that women played in the party’s founding, Kwetey remarked, “This party is said to have been born as a result of our founder, but in reality, the people who founded this party were women who led, like his wife and other women.”

He asked the women to band together and focus their efforts on furthering the goals of the party.

The General Secretary emphasized the shared objective of regaining political power in the upcoming elections in 2024 and emphasized the crucial role women have played in determining the party’s course.

“Men and movements like the NDC are the offspring of women. So, without women, we cannot achieve. We need you to stick together because while cadres may come and go, the party will always exist, Kwetey said.

The NDC National Women’s Organizer, Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw, echoed the General Secretary’s remarks and vowed to inspire the women’s movement to secure a resounding win in the 2024 elections.

She highlighted the group’s commitment to leading the NDC to victory and reaffirmed her commitment to creating harmony among the women’s wing.
