President John Dramani Mahama and UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan agreed on Wednesday to expand energy cooperation.

They suggested that Ghana’s oil and gas storage facilities be funded by the UAE.

On the fringes of the “Make it in the Emirates 2026” event at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center, the two leaders had these conversations.

The leaders acknowledged the UAE’s challenging role as a buffer zone and discussed the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East.

Both said they hoped the US-Iranian conflict would be resolved quickly and that peace would allow the world to turn its attention back to innovation and sustainable development.

The two leaders highlighted diversifying energy portfolios beyond conventional fossil sources.

They explored alternative approaches to energy security, focusing on the transition to liquefied natural gas (LNG) and solar power to lessen dependency on crude oil.

They addressed how to strengthen bilateral ties for the benefit of their people, with a focus on trade, investment, renewable energy, innovation, technology, and artificial intelligence.

The meeting concluded with the two leaders reaffirming Ghana and the UAE’s deep historical ties.

Ghana is a “peaceful partner” and a “secure, stable democracy,” according to the president of the United Arab Emirates, who also highlighted the country’s enormous growth potential.

Both leaders expressed hope that their renewed collaboration would result in real improvements in investment, commerce, and sustainable energy, which would be advantageous to both countries for many years to come.
