The presentation of a Mercedes-Benz fire tender and firefighting equipment at the Accra International Airport has significantly increased the Ghana National Fire Service’s emergency response capability.

The Deputy Minister for the Interior, Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, was present at a brief ceremony where the donation, which was made by Mr. Storms Menri in collaboration with Fire Aid & International Development in the United Kingdom, was formally given.

Hon. Terlabi, who accepted the goods on behalf of the government, thanked Mr. Menri and the UK partners for their kindness, characterising it as an example of “a strong spirit of partnership and a shared commitment to protecting lives and property.”

He pointed out that the donation is timely and will greatly increase the Fire Service’s operational capability, allowing for quicker and more efficient emergency responses.

Hon. Terlabi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to retooling the Service and enhancing working conditions while praising the Chief Fire Officer, leadership, and staff of the Ghana National Fire Service for their bravery and professionalism in the face of difficult circumstances.

In order to strengthen the nation’s emergency services, he continued, the administration will keep looking for foreign collaborations.

When he gave the Deputy Minister the keys, Oxfordshire’s Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Robert Somerled Macdougall, promised that the two organisations would keep up their positive relationship and anticipated future cooperation.

Madam Daniella Ntow Sarpong, Ghana’s Chief Fire Officer, conveyed her appreciation and promised that the supplies will be used effectively and enhance their work.
