It has come to my attention that a new structure is being erected at the overpass in close proximity to the East Legon Police Station.
In the interest of public safety, urban planning integrity and the strict adherence to our regional spatial regulations, I conducted an unscheduled site inspection earlier today accompanied by my technical team.
Upon engaging the personnel on-site, it was claimed that the project was backed by a valid permit. However, the positioning of this structure presents significant concerns regarding the right-of-way and potential obstructions to vital public infrastructure.
Immediate Directives Issued:
Cessation of Works: I have issued an immediate directive for all construction activities at the site to be halted.
Removal of Materials: The developers have been instructed to dismantle any existing framework and clear the site of all construction materials forthwith.
Permit Re-evaluation: I have formally engaged the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the relevant Assembly to initiate an immediate reversal and revocation of any permits purportedly issued for this specific location.
The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council remains committed to ensuring that the development of our capital follows a structured and lawful trajectory. We will not tolerate developments that compromise public safety or bypass the rigorous standards required for urban expansion.
The sanctity of our public spaces must be preserved, and we expect full cooperation from all stakeholders as we enforce these necessary measures.
