The Supreme Court has been petitioned by Daily Searchlight editor-in-chief Ken Kuranchie to rule that former President John Mahama is ineligible to compete for a second term because he has served in that office.
Mr. Kuranchie, among others, is requesting a declaration that the length of a presidential term is four years based on a genuine and proper reading of Article 66 (1) of the 1992 Constitution.
Additionally, he is asking for a declaration that, according to a true and accurate reading of Articles 66(1) and (2) of the 1992 Constitution, “a person seeking a second presidential term must be a sitting president”.

A “declaration that on a true and proper interpretation of Article 62 of the 1992 Constitution, a former president of Ghana is not qualified to seek election as president of Ghana” is something else he requests.
The Attorney General, former President John Mahama, and Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin are the other accused in addition to Mr. Mahama.
