President John Dramani Mahama is in Sierra Leone for an official visit with the goal of increasing important areas of cooperation, such as trade, economic growth, and regional cooperation, and fortifying bilateral ties.
When the Ghanaian president arrived, his counterpart from Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, welcomed him.
In a Facebook post on March 18, 2025, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, President Dramani Mahama’s Special Aide, announced the visit.
The two leaders will talk about issues that both parties have in common, such as social infrastructure, economic alliances, and regional collaboration, she said.

Long-standing ties between Ghana and Sierra Leone are marked by cooperation in development initiatives and reciprocal assistance in times of need.
President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone further cemented the close ties between the two countries in January 2025 by attending President Mahama’s inauguration in Accra.
This partnership will be strengthened by President Mahama’s visit, which will promote stability in the region and economic prosperity.
Cooperation between the two nations is essential to promoting peace and development throughout West Africa, as they are important members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
