Hon. Elizabeth K. T. Sackey, the Mayor of Accra, has praised the Assembly Members’ commitment and assistance during her term, calling their work essential to the accomplishments.
In her farewell speech during the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) Third Ordinary Meeting for 2024, the Mayor praised the Assembly Members for their cooperation, pointing to the revolutionary advancements in infrastructure, sanitation, and income production around the city.
“Whatever posterity assigns to my tenure as Mayor of Accra, know that your efforts will remain an integral part of that legacy,” she stated.
Despite the difficulties, she highlighted sanitation as a crucial area of concentration and said her tenure was a time of great development.
She noted that the Central Business District and important thoroughfares like John Evans Atta Mills High Street and Asafoatse Nettey Road are now cleaner as a consequence of the implementation of the Mayor’s Special Initiative on street sweeping and the careful oversight of garbage collection businesses.
She revealed that the AMA has seen consistent growth in Internally Generated Funds (IGF) in the area of revenue mobilization, attributing the improvement to a centralized digital platform that reduced income leaks and expedited collections.
By mentioning a number of finished projects, such as a child care center in Agbogbloshie, a sanitation court at the AMA Old Office, and classroom blocks for the Independence Avenue Cluster of Schools and Bishop Mixed School, Hon. Sackey further emphasized her administration’s dedication to infrastructure development.
She also mentioned some ongoing projects that were almost finished, including the modern butcher in Jamestown.
In addition to mentioning several Sister City Agreements with cities in the US, South Africa, Germany, Mexico, Italy, and Belize, the mayor added that these collaborations improved the city’s growth prospects by facilitating youth empowerment, climate action, and cultural exchange programs.
