Minister for Foreign Affairs meets with Acting CEO of Venture Capital Trust Fund

The Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Mr. Michael Abbey Esq., Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Venture Capital Trust Fund (VCTF), on Friday, January 16, 2026, to discuss potential partnership opportunities in order to support the nation’s economic development.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer had the chance to update the Honourable Minister on VCTF’s operations and how they affect Ghanaian companies during the meeting.

The Honourable Minister welcomed the request for partnership with the Ministry and remarked that the VCTF’s objective, which includes aiding Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), is consistent with the Ministry’s pursuit of Economic Diplomacy.

Commenting on the abundance of funds available to work towards a common objective, he emphasised the necessity for collaboration and probable consolidation.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer remarked that for the past two (2) decades, VCTF has supported SMEs in a variety of areas, including agribusiness, education, and technology, across the country.

He underlined that the VCTF not only provides funding but also tracks the jobs produced by businesses, monitors tax payments by enterprises to stimulate economic growth, and provides capacity building, among other services.

He went on to say that VCTF is looking forward to capital mobilisation through partnerships, aligning with Government of Ghana initiatives like the 24-Hour Economy by establishing the Edwumawura Fund to support companies that share the vision, and promoting sustainability by supporting businesses that strictly adhere to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Acting Chief Executive Officer and the Minister pledged to strengthen their relationship in order to advance economic expansion.
