The London to Accra Diaspora Economic Growth Summit has been praised by Accra Mayor Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, who has described it as a platform to strengthen city-to-city cooperation and unlock commerce, investment, innovation, and creative interaction between Accra and London through diaspora networks.

He claimed that both Accra and London were cities defined by mobility and enterprise, with people, ideas, and skills that transcended national boundaries. He added that these characteristics reinforced the bonds between the two cities and produced chances for deeper collaboration.

In an interview conducted outside the summit, the Mayor praised the British High Commission in Accra for organising the gathering and for furthering the London-Accra campaign.

The Summit, organised by the British High Commission in Accra in collaboration with the Bank of Ghana at the Bank of Ghana Headquarters, brought together policymakers, investors, innovators, and creatives to map plans for long-term, inclusive economic growth driven by diaspora involvement.

The Mayor described the initiative as a deliberate commitment to increasing organised city-to-city partnership by identifying the diaspora as an important economic, cultural, and social link between the two cities.

He claimed that the London-Accra corridor had the ability to unlock shared growth, strengthen people-to-people connections, and position both cities as leaders in inclusive urban development through long-term collaboration and co-created solutions.

The London-Accra campaign was later backed by the Mayor, who also reaffirmed his support for its goals and upcoming initiatives. He added that the project was in line with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s mission to position Accra as a globally connected, investment-ready, and culturally dynamic city.

He was optimistic that the effort will continue to produce significant results and act as a template for effective city-to-city cooperation.

In his introductory remarks, Dr. Christian Rogg, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, emphasised the significance of the British-Ghanaian diaspora in fostering shared prosperity.

Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiamah, the governor of the Bank of Ghana, also reiterated the central bank’s dedication to creating the legislative and regulatory framework necessary to encourage diaspora investment and more effective remittance routes, notably through digital financial services.
