The Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Moses Anim joined other dignitaries from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organisation to mark the 43rd World Food Day in Accra on the theme, ‘water is life, water is food, leave no one behind’.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Moses Anim described the theme, ‘water is life, water is food, leave no one behind’ as very appropriate considering the rate at which our water bodies are being polluted from activities such as illegal mining, domestic and industrial waste pollution, etc.
According to him, water is also vital for food production. Every calorie of plant food requires at least one liter of water, while one calorie of meat or dairy products can require up to 10 liters of water. Water is supplied either through rain or through irrigation.

He indicated that the theme ‘reminds us as a people and government to take action to protect our water bodies and conserve the environment to ensure food and nutritional security for the people, as well as the well-being of the population, can be achieved when there is sufficient water in terms of quantity, quality, and reliability.
This he said, calls for the need for a coordinated approach to preserving our water resources which are critical for the sustainable management of the fisheries resources and the development of Aquaculture.
