As part of the National Girls-in-ICT Program, the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations has started the Training of Trainers workshop with the goal of providing 100 instructors with ICT training.

From September 18 to 22, 2025, the training will take place at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies in Wa.

The chosen educators will participate in rigorous training in computer literacy and digital skills. They were chosen from each of the Upper West Region’s eleven districts.

Following the one-week training, the teachers are supposed to impart the knowledge they have learned to 1,000 chosen girls in the area who are in Primary Four through Junior High School.

The program aims to inspire and support the upcoming generation of female innovators in addition to closing the gender gap in digital technology.

Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, Esq., the Upper West Regional Minister, praised the Ministry for choosing the area as the training’s focus point during his remarks at the opening ceremony.

He asked educators to put their all into the exercise, emphasizing how important it is that they serve as mentors and role models for Ghana’s digital future.

Mr. Austin Hesse, the Ministry’s Director of Policy, Planning, Budgeting, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PPBME), also emphasized the program’s transformative qualities.

More than 15,981 girls and 1,292 instructors nationwide have received ICT, coding, machine learning, and other digital skills training since the program’s founding, he said.

He emphasized that the Girls-In-ICT program offers a specific chance to reduce the disparity in digital technology use, particularly among young girls.

A competition, mentorship sessions, and an awards ceremony will mark the program’s culmination. The top 100 girls will get computers and certificates, with additional rewards for the top three performers.

Following a similar activity in the Volta Region, the Upper West Region will hold the Training of Trainers program next, in the Savannah Region.
