The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection formally opened its “Child Caregiving Center” on Friday, May 30, 2025, in a major step to encourage early childhood development and work-life balance.

With an emphasis on helping nursing moms, the center is especially made to offer a caring and secure environment for the kids of Ministry employees.

This creative program seeks to enable working parents, especially moms, to succeed in their jobs while making sure their kids get the attention and stimulation they require to mature.

The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, spoke during the event and underlined the vital role the Ministry plays in protecting the welfare and rights of vulnerable populations, particularly children.

She pointed out that this duty also applies to the Ministry’s own employees, acknowledging them as an essential workforce and a major source of productivity assistance.

In order to create the groundwork for children’s cognitive, physical, and social development, the Sector Minister emphasized the significance of early childhood development.

Furthermore, by creating supportive environments where young children can flourish, Hon. Dr. Naa Momo Lartey reaffirmed that the program underscores the Republic of Ghana’s President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s, commitment to prioritizing early childhood care and development.

In order to improve their working circumstances and general well-being, she urged employees to utilize the center to the fullest extent possible.

Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the Chief Director of MoGCSP, explained in her remarks that the launch is a calculated attempt to assist working parents, especially mothers, by providing a safe and monitored environment for children ages 0 to 3.

She emphasized that the program gives employees the confidence to perform their jobs because they know their kids are in good care.

Her Excellency The Australian Ambassador to Ghana, Berenice Owen-Jones, praised the Ministry for the initiative and suggested that other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies use the model as a guide.

Later, the Minister and Chief Director gave visitors and media representatives a guided tour of the building so they could get a close-up look at the kid-friendly center.
