Pru East District police have Mary Adu, a 29-year-old single mother, under arrest for maltreating her 4-year-old son.
After a neighbor complained to social welfare officials about the mother’s treatment of her son inhumanely, the social welfare officials arrested the mother.
The reporter, Mr. David Duku, told the media that he saw her beating her son repeatedly for hours till he was covered in bruises.
The Domestic and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVSU) team and representatives of Social Welfare attended the scene and detained the suspect in order to conduct additional research.
The young victim, who is four years old, was taken urgently to St. Mathias Hospital in Yeji, where he is still receiving care.
The boy has serious cuts on his face and other parts of his body, according to Madam Lydia Apam from the welfare department.
He will be prepared for theater because of the severity of the injuries.
In order to find a long-term solution to the issue, Madam Apam added that the case will be taken up and the proper procedures would be followed.
