The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has initiated a significant internal democratic process to fortify its grassroots organisations by formally opening nominations for its nationwide branch elections.

Nominations from all party branches will be accepted from May 2 until May 16, 2026, according to a statement signed by Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, the party’s Deputy General Secretary in charge of Finance and Administration.

The exercise, which is a crucial component of the NDC’s restructuring efforts ahead of future political activity, is anticipated to cover 40,647 branches across the party’s 276 seats nationally.

Starting on May 2, nomination forms will be accessible online via the party’s official site, either individually or in bulk.

Members must be in good standing by paying their dues using authorised channels, including as the party’s official website and a shortcode system, and each form will cost GHS 20.00.

The party also declared that branch elections will take place between May 20 and June 30, 2026, and it urged members to handle the process responsibly and with discipline.

Additionally, the NDC has specified required resignation conditions for members who fall into specific categories and want to run for office.

These comprise Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors and their deputies, including Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State.

Depending on the level of election they plan to run for, affected persons must resign by April 30, May 14, or June 7, 2026.

The party asserts that the instruction complies with rules established by its National Executive Committee, which are intended to guarantee equity and preserve the integrity of the electoral process.

The NDC has urged its members to actively participate in the elections while maintaining the party’s fundamental principles of discipline, unity, and justice.
