The tragic attack on a military escort convoy in Binduri in the Upper East Region has resulted in 21 arrests, according to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), as security operations step up to find any remaining perpetrators.
On Monday, April 27, 2026, a convoy carrying about 140 passengers from Bawku to Bolgatanga was attacked by unknown gunmen.
The event claimed the lives of three civilians and injured one more.
The military revealed that unidentified individuals had attacked the escort convoy in a press release on the day of the attack.
Seven attackers were killed when the army successfully repelled the assault.
Security personnel found and recovered a G3 automatic weapon, two filled magazines containing 20 rounds each, and 176 rounds of extra ammunition from an escapee who had gone to a mosque during the pursuit.
Captain (Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, the Ghana Armed Forces’ Acting Director General of Public Relations, revealed on Channel One News that there are currently 21 individuals in custody.
The suspects are helping with investigations, she said, and security activities are still ongoing as efforts are made to find additional people connected to the incident.
Captain Arhin warned the public not to harm security personnel who are on official duty and described the situation as changing.
“Please do not attack the military especially when they are on official duty. When you do that, it is needless lives that will be lost because we need to protect ourselves and protect whatever assignment we have been given,” she said.
The Armed Forces wished the injured a quick recovery and sent their sincere condolences to the families of the people who had died.
In order to stabilise the region and stop any attacks, the military added that it is collaborating with other security organisations. Captain Arhin signed the release.
