Ghana’s Attorney-General has expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will overturn the Court of Appeal’s decision to acquit former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Attionu Tamakloe, after instructing the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to file a formal appeal.
Sedina Tamakloe was previously charged with 78 criminal counts, including conspiracy to steal, stealing, causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, improper use of public funds, unauthorised financial commitments, and alleged violations of the Public Procurement Act.
The former MASLOC boss was tried in absentia by the High Court (Financial Division 2), where Justice Afia Serwaa Asare-Botwe found her guilty and sentenced her to 10 years in prison.
According to the Attorney-General’s Office, the Republic had strongly opposed Tamakloe’s appeal at the Court of Appeal, arguing through written legal submissions that her application lacked merit and should be dismissed. Following the appellate court’s ruling in her favour, the government has now escalated the matter to the Supreme Court of Ghana.
In addition to filing the notice of appeal, the Attorney-General has directed the Director of Public Prosecutions to seek a stay of execution of the Court of Appeal’s judgment until the Supreme Court delivers its final verdict.
The Attorney-General’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, stating that it believes the Supreme Court will uphold justice and reverse the acquittal.
In an official statement, the office said:
