The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has criticised Attorney-General Dr Dominic Ayine, accusing him of applying different standards in the legal cases involving Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) and former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.

Speaking to Class News after the Court of Appeal acquitted and discharged Ms Tamakloe-Attionu, Nana B claimed the Attorney-General’s approach was influenced by political affiliation. According to him, Chairman Wontumi is being treated differently because he belongs to the opposition NPP, while Ms Tamakloe-Attionu is associated with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He alleged that the Attorney-General’s office showed little commitment in challenging Tamakloe-Attionu’s appeal, describing the outcome as predictable.

“This was expected. This was well orchestrated and choreographed,” Nana B said.

He further argued that the government’s efforts to pursue extradition proceedings against the former MASLOC boss lacked seriousness, claiming the responses filed by the Attorney-General’s office were weak and unconvincing.

Drawing a comparison with Chairman Wontumi’s case, Nana B asserted that the Attorney-General had taken a far more aggressive stance in prosecuting the NPP chairman.

According to him, the State appeared fully committed to securing Wontumi’s conviction, while showing little interest in defending the appeal against Tamakloe-Attionu’s acquittal.

Nana B also questioned the strength of the prosecution’s case against Chairman Wontumi, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence following his conviction in an illegal mining case. He argued that the evidence presented by prosecutors did not meet the legal threshold required to establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

He maintained that hearsay evidence should never be sufficient to deprive an individual of their liberty, insisting that criminal convictions must be supported by credible and compelling evidence.

His comments come after Thursday’s Court of Appeal ruling, which overturned Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu’s conviction and 10-year jail sentence after finding that the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Ms Tamakloe-Attionu served as MASLOC Chief Executive Officer during former President John Mahama’s first administration. Her acquittal comes during President Mahama’s second term in office, following the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who governed Ghana from 2017 to 2025.
