A robbery attempt on the Tutuka-Akrofuom route in the Ashanti Region was foiled by the Ghana Police Service’s Obuasi Divisional Command, and one suspect was taken into custody.
The police claimed in a statement that the intervention came after a distress call regarding a roadside robbery. A number of armed individuals were stopped by the responding squad as they arrived at the location, and they then fled into the neighboring jungle.
At the scene, the crew discovered a machete and two unregistered motorcycles that they assumed the suspects had left behind during their getaway.
A jungle chase was started right away, according to the police, and one suspect, Pascal Yenkye, was arrested after he was shot in the leg while trying to escape on a motorcycle.
While efforts are being made to arrest the other gang members, the suspect is presently undergoing medical care under police guard.
The police promised that “a manhunt is underway to arrest the other suspects on the run to face the law.”
