Abena Asare, the Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), has recused herself from presiding over the committee’s 2024 proceedings due to a potential conflict of interest.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Asare stated that her prior work as Deputy Minister of Finance in 2024 may jeopardize her impartiality when the committee continues to examine the Auditor-General’s Report on Ghana’s Public Accounts for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024.
The committee’s hearings will focus on the financial operations of important government agencies such as the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and the National Information Technology Agency (NITA).
Her recusal is meant to ensure transparency and the integrity of the committee’s oversight efforts.
