The Ghana Police Service arrested four Bills Micro-Credit Limited field officers after a widely reported fight with a woman at Ashongman Estate.
The arrests follow the widespread social media circulation of a video purporting to show several business officers assaulting a pregnant woman.
She was heard fighting with the officers over what they said was a GH¢300 loan that she had neglected to pay back.
The woman’s phone is seen being taken by one of the officers in the footage. She dropped to the ground while still holding the infant and trying to get it back.
Prior to this, the firm had declared that it had suspended the officers and turned them over to the police for an investigation.
The Kwabenya District Police Command began to investigate into an alleged assault incident at Ashongman Estate involving microcredit company officials, according to a statement released by the Accra Regional Police Command on March 15, 2026.
According to police, the 42-year-old complainant, Hagar Emaser, said on March 13 that four men from the company had been to her home to demand repayment of a credit facility and had allegedly attacked her.
Denis Wornyo, 38; Albert Amarh, 40; Ebenezer Amartei, 23; and Atsu Lawson, 27, are the suspects.
They were taken into custody by the police yesterday, Sunday, March 15, and are currently helping with investigations.
The officers seen in the video were immediately suspended, according to a second statement from Bills Micro-Credit Limited, per a board order until investigations were conducted.
The business had previously denounced the event and stated that it has started internal investigations to determine the complete circumstances of the altercation.
Victims of assault and other crimes are asked by the Accra Regional Police Command to report such instances to the police so that they can be promptly investigated.
Additionally, police encouraged those who had complaints about loans or other civil issues to seek legal and amicable ways to settle them.
