Ghana’s electronic visa (e-Visa) gateway, a significant reform intended to expedite visa applications, enhance travel facilitation, and update the nation’s immigration system through digital technology, has been officially launched by President John Dramani Mahama.

While guaranteeing that all applicants continue to go through stringent security checks and due diligence in accordance with national security regulations, the platform is made to make the visa application process more effective and accessible.

President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to continental integration and openness during the event by announcing waivers of the visa cost for any African passport holders visiting Ghana for business or pleasure.

He went on to discuss ongoing upgrades at Ghana’s international airports, mentioning that Terminals 2 and 3 are getting new 3D scanning equipment.

Passengers won’t need to take laptops and liquids out of hand luggage thanks to these improvements.

He noted that beginning in August, additional sophisticated equipment will eliminate the bother of removing shoes and belts during security screening as part of efforts to improve the entire travel experience.

President Mahama emphasised that, although Ghana continues to increase travel convenience and efficiency, national security is uncompromising.

Ghana is dedicated to welcoming Africans and promoting itself as a home for continental mobility, he said, pointing out that the country’s strategy contrasts with growing worldwide trends of restriction.

Additionally, he emphasised that Ghana’s interactions with the outside world can no longer be defined by antiquated methods. He added that the reforms are part of a larger goal to use technology to boost border security, improve governance, deepen African integration, and improve national security.
