President John Dramani Mahama will commemorate his first anniversary in office today, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, with a Non-Denominational Thanksgiving Service at Accra’s Forecourt of the Presidency (Jubilee House).

The celebration, which begins at 8:00 a.m., comes exactly one year after the President swore the “sacred oath” to God and country to lead the nation.

The thanksgiving service is held with the subject “Resetting.” Rebuilding. Renewing.” This subject is directly related to the “Reset Agenda” that the President presented in his New Year message, which he termed as a “covenant” to build the nation that Ghanaians deserve.

The ceremony serves numerous important purposes:

  • National Gratitude: To offer thanks for the national stability maintained over the past year.
  • Reflection: To bring together religious leaders, government officials, and the diplomatic corps to reflect on the administration’s progress.
  • Reaffirmation: To renew the government’s commitment to inclusive governance and the “Reset” framework intended to transform the global and domestic governance systems.

The anniversary marks a momentous milestone for President Mahama’s administration, which took over what he described as a “nation in distress” a year ago.

President Mahama stated in a recent address to the nation that his first twelve months were spent establishing the groundwork through “prudent management and difficult but necessary reforms”.

As the President begins his second year, he has promised that 2026 will be a time to “accelerate and expand” on this basis. Today’s service is expected to bring spiritual and national togetherness.
