In response to growing concerns about the current status of the housing project and the involvement of private enterprises that prioritize profit over providing affordable housing for many Ghanaians, the Saglemi Not for Sale team has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to immediately halt all ongoing construction processes.
They call on the government to start a comprehensive inquiry of the contractual agreements pertaining to the construction process in Saglemi.
Team Saglemi Not For Sale first congratulated John Dramani Mahama on winning the general election in 2024 in their statement.
As a civil society organization, they emphasized their role in consistently opposing the departing administration’s efforts to sell the Saglemi Housing Project to private companies.
The project’s original goal of giving Ghanaians access to inexpensive homes was reaffirmed, but they feel that this goal has been jeopardized.
In defining the contractual conditions of the project as some kind of covert arrangement that raises numerous issues about the housing project, the statement highlighted the growing worries about the lack of openness around these arrangements.
The Team Saglemi signed it. They voiced their displeasure with the commercial participation in the project, but they did not object to the notion of private partnerships in government, according to Not for Sale Convener Nana Otu Darko.
