The fourth cohort of the Social Service Workforce Training Programme was concluded with a ceremony given by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection’s School of Social Work.
This cohort graduated 60 participants, increasing the total number of people trained since the program’s start to 240.
The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, congratulated the graduates on their devotion and discipline throughout the grueling program.
She stated that a well-equipped and motivated social service workforce is still vital to developing Ghana’s social welfare and protection institutions.
The Minister emphasized the long-standing function of the School of Social Work, which was founded in 1945, as a pillar for preparing qualified social workers for the Department of Community Development and the Department of Social Welfare.

She underlined the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening professionalism, ethics, and compassion in service delivery, noting that the work of social service officers “touches lives, restores hope, and safeguards the dignity of vulnerable individuals and families across the nation.”
Representing UNICEF, the Child Protection Specialist, Young Joo Lee underlined the need for a clear legislative framework that explicitly acknowledges social work as a profession, akin to the medical and teaching disciplines.
She further encouraged participants to uphold high standards of practice and ensure that the information learned translates into enhanced social welfare delivery at the district level.
The ceremony also featured speeches from partner institutions and the awarding of certificates to the graduating trainees.
