Due to lack of authority, the Ho High Court denied a petition that contested John Peter Amewu’s election as the Hohoe MP.
In an attempt to overturn Amewu’s victory in the 2020 parliamentary elections, five citizens of the Santrofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL) enclave filed the case.
Due to a disagreement about their inclusion in the Oti Region, which was created out of the Volta Region, the SALL region, which consists of 13 communities, did not take part in the elections.
According to the court’s decision on Monday, July 29, 2024, the petitioners’ request essentially calls into doubt the legitimacy of CI 128—the statute that served as the guidelines for the Electoral Commission’s administration of the 2020 parliamentary elections.
Amewu arrived late for the session and brought up three additional topics, which the local NDC called a diversionary strategy.
Amewu is still the Hohoe MP as a result of the petition’s rejection.
