The public has been reassured by Mr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, that the government is working to rehire public sector employees who were unlawfully let go during the transition period after the administration change.

Mr. Pelpuo stated in an interview with Joy FM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, that a special committee has been formed to look into the reasons behind these employees’ termination.

Co-chaired by Mr. Pelpuo and Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe, the committee is presently examining the cases of 12,000 employees who were employed just prior to the government transition.

Mr. Pelpuo clarified that the purpose of the inquiry is to confirm the validity of their appointments and guarantee the prompt reinstatement of those who were legitimately hired through the appropriate procedures.

“We are determined to make sure that no one who was legitimately employed through the correct public service procedures is unfairly removed from their position,” Mr. Pelpuo said.

“We are working diligently to resolve this issue within the next week. This process is aimed at bringing clarity and fairness to those affected.”

Mr. Pelpuo added that inconsistencies, including fabricated documentation and unethical hiring procedures, were the reason behind some of the terminations.

In tackling these problems, he emphasized that the administration is dedicated to maintaining justice and openness.

Those who were wrongfully fired and those whose employment did not follow set processes will be the targets of the investigation.

“We understand the impact this situation has on workers, particularly those who have been in service for a long time,” Mr. Pelpuo said.

“The President has instructed that we thoroughly investigate these cases, and we will ensure the process is fair and impartial.”

The Minister stated that the welfare of Ghanaian workers continues to be a top priority and reiterated the government’s efforts to enhance employment standards in the public sector.
